Q: The Purdue Catalog Connection File does not work. What should I do?

The Purdue Catalog server name and port ID number have been changed.  Follow these instructions and edit the connection file on your harddrive.

Q: GeoRef, a SilverPlatter database, does not "export" the marked citations as described on this page currently.

It looks like the SilverPlatter server is not downloading the file to the user's remote hard drive.  Our suggestion is to avoid using "direct export" for GeoRef in the meantime.  Save or download the citations into a file and then import it into EndNote.  It is a two-step process.  Follow these instructions .

Q: Endnote is suddenly acting kind of odd. I recently updated to version 8.01. When I click on the ‘save’ button, a dialog appears showing that the articles are being extracted for downloading.  Then, Endnote opens and I’m asked to select a file. Unfortunately, however, once I’ve clicked on a file, nothing happens…the computer doesn’t lock up or anything, just nothing downloads into EndNote.

The EndNote technical support suggested to emptying the "Temporary Internet Files."  Apparently, EndNote 8 has trouble downloading when too many internet temporary files accumulate.  So, the solution to the problem just entails going into the directory C:\WINDOWS\Temp\Temporary Internet Files and emptying it.  The "Temporary Internet Files" could also be stored in other paths on your computer.

Q: After installing EndNote and opening Microsoft Word, I do not see the EndNote toolbar or commands under the Tools menu.  How can I fix this?

See instructions from the EndNote Support page at http://www.endnote.com/support/faqs/enfaq7.asp

Or, follow this suggestion provided by Brian Berndt:

  1. Start Word.
  2. Open the EndNote toolbar file (C:\Program Files\EndNote\EN7CWYW.dot). The EndNote toolbar will show up, but it won't be there if you exit and re-start Word. So:
  3. Select "Macros..." from the Tools/Macro submenu.
  4. Once the Macros box comes up, click the "Organizer..." button.
  5. Click the Toolbars tab and EndNote 7 should show up in the box on the left.
  6. Click the "Copy >>" button to install the toolbar in the Normal.dot (global template).
  7. Click the Close button.
