Government Documents on Aviation

Aviation affects our lives in a variety of ways whether we take a personal or business trip on a plane or receive mail or packages.  It also plays an important role in areas such as the domestic and international economy, national security, and scientific research.  Purdue Libraries have many government publications on aviation.  Many of these are located in the AVTE Library but others can be found in libraries such as ENGR, HSSE, and MGMT.  Subject headings to search for government documents on aviation in the Library Catalog include:

 Aeronautics and State--United States
 Aircraft Accidents
 Aircraft Industry--United States
 Air Traffic Control--United States
 Airports--United States

The principal index to U.S. Government publications is the Monthly Catalog of U.S. Government Publications HSSE REF & Periodicals 016.353 Un36.  The GPO Index on the Purdue Libraries indexes page is an electronic version of this indexe from 1976-present. The Catalog of Government Publications covers these resources from 1994-present. Other useful indexes include Congressional Information Service (CIS) Index HSSE REF 328.73005 C76 and CIS Congressional Serial Set Index 1789-1969 HSSE REF 328.73 C761c and its online version (Purdue Users Only), CIS Index to Executive Branch Documents 1910-1932 HSSE REF 351.73 C497 1996.
