Selected Purdue Libraries Databases for Health and Kinesiology

  • Education (OmniFile): Education Full Text is included in OmniFile Full Text Mega, which is a multi-disciplinary database providing indexing, abstracts, and full text from several of Wilson's full-text databases. To access this database in the "Advanced Search", click on OmniFile Full Text Mega in the "Search In" menu at the top of the screen. Then choose Education in the "Subject Area: drop down menu on the lower right corner of the search screen.
  • ERIC: Educational Resources Information Center is a bibliographic database sponsored by the US Department of Education, is the premier source for education-related research, documents, and journal articles. ERIC consists of two files: Resources in Education, which covers the document literature, consisting of research reports, curriculum and teaching guides, conference papers, and books; and Current Index to Journals in Education, which covers published journal literature from over 775 periodicals.
  • Medline: Main database in field of medicine. Good for materials on allied health, public health, health promotion and biomechanics.
  • SPORT Discus: is an international database which contains information on sports medicine, exercise physiology, biometrics, psychology, training techniques, coachinig, physical education, physical fitness, active living.

  • American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance: The American umbrella organization for the health, physical education, recreation and dance communities and links to an international network of more than 25,000 professionals from around the globe. Organizations within it include: American Association for Active Lifestyles and Fitness (AAALF) American Association for Leisure and Recreation (AALR) American Association for Health Education (AAHE) National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE) National Association for Girls and Women in Sport (NAGWS) National Dance Association (NDA).
  • American College of Sports Medicine: (ACSM) Promoting and integrating scientific research, education and practical applications of sports medicine and exercise science.
  • American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine: (AOSSM) A national organization of orthopaedic surgeons specializing in sports medicine, including national and international sports medicine leaders. The AOSSM works closely with many other sports medicine specialists and clinicians, including family physicians, emergency physicians, pediatricians, athletic trainers and physical therapists, to improve the identification, prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of sports injuries.
  • American Physical Therapy Association: (APTA) A national professional organization. Its goal is to foster advancements in physical therapy practice, research, and education.
  • Association for the Advancement of Applied Sport Psychology: The premiere organization for professionals and students interested in sport and exercise psychology and the psychology of performance excellence.
  • International Society for Aging and Physical Activity: An international not-for-profit society promoting research, clinical practice, and public policy initiatives in the area of aging and physical activity.
  • National Athletic Trainer´s Association: Dealing with the quality of health care for athletes and those engaged in physical activity and the advancement of the profession of athletic training.
  • National Association for Physical Education in Higher Education: Seeking to provide a forum for interdisciplinary ideas, concepts, and issues related to the role of physical education in higher education with respect for social, cultural, and personal perspectives.
  • National Strength and Conditioning Association: Serving as the worldwide authority on strength and conditioning for its members as well as the media.
  • North American Society for Pediatric Medicine:NASPEM is comprised of medical doctors, researchers and students interested in pediatric exercise. The Society's mission is to promote exercise science, physical activity and fitness in the health and medical care of children and adolescents.
  • Women's Sports Foundation:Focuses on issues such as equality, discrimination. Title IX, mind and body as it relates to women's sports, participation, and other important issues related to coaches and parents.
