Step 1: Choose companies you want to research. You will find a list at the following website:

Purdue Agricultural Academic Programs' Food, Agriculture and Natural Resources Career Fair

Step 2: Do basic background research.

Once you choose a company or companies to research, Business and Company Resource Center and Hoover's (only available in the Krannert building) will help you identify the following information about your company:

  • Main headquarters and address
  • Whether it is public or private
  • Number of employees
  • Historical profile
  • Main competitors
  • Information on the company's industry

Step 3: Do financial research.

After researching the company's general background information, you will want to look at the financial records spanning the past three to five years. A great source for finding this information is Thomson Research. After you search for your company, you will want to choose the SEC 10-K History (10-Year) Link. The database contains up to ten year's worth of financial information in spreadsheet format.

Step 4: Read articles about the company.

ABI-Inform Global is a database that allows you to search business articles. Searching in this database will support your company research by offering:

  • Current news
  • Company strategy
  • Competitive landscape
  • Industry information

The company's website contains valuable information. To get descriptions of current job offerings, look for the human resources or employment link.
