How many libraries are there on campus?
Fifteen.  The Black Cultural Center also has a library.

What other libraries on campus have books in the psychological sciences disciplines?
In addition to our Library, most PSYC users might need to use the following campus libraries at one time or another:  the Humanities, Social Science & Education Library, the Consumer & Family Sciences Library, the Management & Economics Library, and the Life Sciences LibraryYou will find the other 10 Purdue libraries listed on this page along with their locations.

How do I know whether Purdue has a specific book or journal?
Use the
Online CatalogPurdue´s online catalog.  The help pages provide more information.

Do I have to come to the libraries to use the online catalogs?
No, the online catalogs and other databases are available from on and off campus.  This proxy server page provides information on configuring your browser for off campus connection.

I found a book on the Online Catalog, but there is no call number.   Is it available for use?
No call number usually indicates that a book has been ordered, but has not been received or cataloged.  If it says "received on <date>", please contact a staff member.  You can fill out an "In Process Form" to request the book for rush cataloging.

What journals are available from the PSYC Library?
From the Online Catalog page, you can search specific journal titles.  There is a short listing of printed journal titles housed in the PSYC Library only.

What journals are available electronically?
This electronic journal page will allow you to search individual titles, or browse through all e-journal titles.

Purdue does not have the item I am looking for.  Are there other ways to get it?
Our Interlibrary Loan Service can borrow a copy of a book or obtain a copy of a journal article.  Please fill out the online ILL FormOften times, one can locate the entire article via some of our fulltext databases.

Which databases have fulltext?
Please click on the database listing on the PSYC Home Page, especially the "Aggregrated Databases" group.

How long can books be checked out?
This varies with each campus library.  If you do not find an answer on the "Purdue University Libraries: Loan Periods" pages, please contact the circulation desk at the library.

How do I renew a book?  How many times can it be renewed?
Click on "Your Library Account" button on the Purdue Libraries Homepage -- you can renew your books online three times.

The book I need has been checked out.  How do I recall it?
You can initiate a "recall" online for a book.  Click on the "Request this Book" button, located on the upper part of the online book record.  For more information, please see this page.

What are the relevant databases related to psychological sciences?

I cannot connect to the databases from home.  What do I have to do to make it work?

Where are the "reserve" materials for my class?  Is there a list somewhere?
Undergraduate class (course nos. 499 and below) materials are housed in the HIKS Undergraduate Library Circulation Desk.  Graduate level reserve items are housed at the PSYC Library in Peirce Hall.

I want to put reserve material in the PSYC Library for my students.  How do I do it?
For graduate level reserves, please contact Tonya Wichterman at the PSYC Library (49-42968).  For course nos. 499 and below, please contact the HIKS Undergraduate Library Circulation Desk directly (49-46822).

How do I find Purdue theses?
For a specific thesis, search the title or author like a book in the Online Catalog.
For all theses from a specific department,
follow these instructions.

How do I find videos in the Purdue Libraries?
THOR-CATALOG searches can be limited to searching "videorecording" as a format.  Go to the Catalog Search page, click on the "Set Limits" button, and select "videorecording" in the "Format" window.  Or, follow these instructions as a quick search alternative.

How do I recommend purchase of a book for the PSYC Library?
Please fill out the online Book Purchase Recommendation form available on the PSYC Library home page.

Can I use my Purdue debit card to make copies in the libraries?  If not, where can I purchase a copy card to use with the xerox machines?
No, the Libraries´ copiers are currently not set up to use the Purdue debit cards.  Sorry!

There are two kinds of copy cards:  blue and gold cards. 

     Blue card -- minimum cost is $1, extra value can be added by depositing coins into
     the copier coin slot while the card is still inside the machine.  Any user can purchase
     a blue card, available for purchase at the MATH, UGRL, HSSE, LIFE, and other libraries.

     Gold card -- each can make 250 copies, available at the PSYC Library Circulation Desk
     during regular office hours.  Not sold in cash, but charged to individuals who have a
     departmental account.
